Centennial lineman gets up for game just by lying down

Every day, when he wakes up or goes to sleep, offensive lineman Cameron Hunt of Corona Centennial is reminded why he works so hard.

“I have a little poster up in my room,” he said. “It has a picture of Vista Murrieta’s championship and it has a picture of us winning state in 2008. Every time I wake up or go to bed, that’s what my goals are and dreams are.”

So understand that the 6-foot-4, 255-pound senior will have a lot of motivation on Friday night when Centennial (12-1) plays at Vista Murrieta (13-0) for the Inland Division championship.

“It motivates me when I don’t feel like working hard or don’t feel I’m up to speed,” he said.

Hunt has proved to be one of the top blockers in the state. He committed to California months ago, and recruiters have been trying to peel him away for weeks, for good reason.

“Sometimes when you get seniors or guys who have committed going into their senior year, they kind of cruise,” Coach Matt Logan said. “That’s the total opposite of him. He has been really incredible, probably the best offensive lineman we’ve ever had, but what I think is even more important is his leadership.”

In the last two playoff games, Vista Murrieta junior defensive end Curtis Bolton has recorded 81/2 sacks.

“He’s lightning quick,” Coach Coley Candaele said.

Newcomer for Canoga Park

Canoga Park has reached Saturday’s City Section Division II championship game against San Fernando at East Los Angeles College with the help of a late-season addition, junior receiver-defensive back Jeremie Ruelle.

Ruelle played previously at Encino Crespi and Granada Hills. He was academically ineligible until the final regular-season game this year, when he played for the junior varsity team. Then his family moved into the Canoga Park attendance boundary, making him eligible immediately to play for the varsity.

Last week in the semifinals against Jefferson, he was all over the field making tackles.

National telecasts

High school football in Southern California is going national. Friday’s Vista Murrieta-Corona Centennial game will be shown nationally by Fox Sports West at 7 p.m.

Saturday’s City Section Division I championship game between Harbor City Narbonne and Crenshaw at 7 p.m. at East Los Angeles College will be televised live by Time Warner Cable’s SportsNet, the Lakers channel, and in Spanish by Time Warner Cable Deportes.

All 13 Southern Section championships this weekend will be either streamed live on Fox Sports West’s Prep Zone or be televised by FSW or Prime Ticket.
