New Washington football Coach Chris Petersen announced his coaching staff Monday and Tosh Lupoi wasn’t on it.

Lupoi, Washington’s defensive line coach under Steve Sarkisian the last two seasons, “has been reassigned to other duties within the athletic department,” the school said in a news release

The NCAA is investigating allegations, first reported by the Los Angeles Times, that Lupoi paid for tutoring and online classes for Andrew Basham, a 2013 Huskies recruit who did not qualify academically to enroll.

Lupoi has denied violating NCAA rules in the recruitment of Basham. Lupoi was among Washington assistants Sarkisian hoped to bring to USC after he was hired by the Trojans.

If the allegations involving Lupoi are found to be true, Sarkisian could face penalties, including suspension, unless he can prove he promoted an atmosphere of compliance and monitored his staff.

The Seattle Times reported that Lupoi is under contract through Feb. 6, 2015 and that Washington would owe him $700,000 until Jan. 13, 2014 if he is “terminated without cause. “ The payment is reduced to $350,000 if he is terminated between Jan. 14, 2014 and Feb. 6, 2015, the Seattle Times reported.
