Jeff Clement powers Mariners past Tigers
* at Seattle 3, Detroit 2: Rookie Jeff Clement homered in his final two at-bats, the second a two-run shot against Fernando Rodney in the eighth inning. The former USC star’s solo shot in the sixth brought the Mariners to within 2-1 and ended an 0-for-11 skid.
* Texas 5, at Baltimore 3: Scott Feldman, moved up in the rotation after Eric Hurley was scratched because of a hamstring injury, gave up three runs and three hits in the first inning, then blanked the Orioles on two hits over the next five.
* at Chicago 6, Oakland 1: Gavin Floyd pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings to get his 10th victory. Floyd (10-4), who was 8-10 in his career entering this season, yielded only three singles.
* at Tampa Bay 3, Kansas City 0: Ben Zobrist homered for the third game in a row as the Rays increased their East Division lead to a season-high four games over second-place Boston. The Rays have won 10 of 11.
* at Minnesota 9, Cleveland 6: Grady Sizemore’s three-run homer, his league-leading 22nd, was the lone highlight for the Indians, who lost their seventh in a row. The Twins improved to 17-3 since June 13.
* at New York 2, Boston 1: Mariano Rivera escaped a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the ninth inning by striking out Coco Crisp, getting Jason Varitek on a popup and striking out Julio Lugo.
* Toronto 7, at Angels 5: John Lackey yielded more than three runs (six– five earned – in six innings) for the first time in 10 starts.
