AT THE PLATE: The Angels loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning when Kole Calhoun singled, Mike Trout walked and Albert Pujols singled, but they scored only once, on Matt Joyce’s sacrifice fly to left. Erick Aybar tripled to right and scored on Collin Cowgill’s single in the fourth, and Alex Yarbrough doubled and scored on Taylor Featherston’s sacrifice fly in the sixth. Daniel Robertson, who is competing for a reserve outfield spot, had a double and a single.

ON THE MOUND: Seven pitchers combined to limit the Rockies to four hits, with starter Jered Weaver allowing two hits, striking out one and walking one in 2 2/3 solid innings. Left-hander Cesar Ramos, acquired from Tampa Bay, retired the side in order in the fourth, Drew Rucinski struck out one and walked one in two hitless innings, and Frank Herrmann and Ryan Mattheus each threw scoreless innings.

EXTRA BASES: Grant Green, one of four players competing for the second-base job, made a diving back-hand grab of Ben Paulsen’s one-hop smash in the second and threw to first for the out. … Cowgill made a strong one-hop throw to the plate from left field to gun down Daniel Descalso, who was attempting to score on a fly ball in the first. … Drew Butera, who is competing for the backup catching job behind Chris Iannetta, showed off his strong arm by throwing out DJ Lemahieu on a stolen-base attempt at second to end the fifth.
