The Chicago White Sox are trying to work out a deal with Chance The Rapper, who often wears a White Sox cap during his performances, to be their club ambassador. No word yet on whether the San Diego Padres can ink a similar deal with trainers from “The Biggest Loser”....

On a Dallas radio station, Texas Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels had this to say about Adrian Beltre, who will be a free agent after the season: “I love the guy. I could not appreciate him more on or off the field, and what he’s done for a lot of people — including myself, this franchise, our young players, so we would still like to be able to find a way to keep him as a Ranger beyond this year.” ... Marlins top prospect Tyler Kolek underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday....

Former Dodger James Loney, who was released by the Tampa Bay Rays last week, is willing to spend some time in the minors after the Padres signed him Friday. He hit .280 and “slugged” .357 last season. ... Yadier Molina broke Ted Simmons’ team record of 1,439 games at catcher when he started for St. Louis on Wednesday... Remember Mat Latos, perhaps the worst Dodgers pitcher in history? He got the win for the White Sox on Thursday, his first win since July 21....

Kirk Gibson, still battling Parkinson’s disease, threw out the first pitch at Detroit’s home opener on Friday.... Don’t pick him for your fantasy team: Jose Quintana of the White Sox has 53 no-decisions in 120 career starts....

Adidas will pay tribute to Jackie Robinson for Jackie Robinson Day on Friday with a new shoe that has newspaper headlines from his debut and Robinson’s No. 42 on them. Two quotes from Robinson are also on the shoe: “Above anything else, I hate to lose” and “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”...

Yankees Manager Joe Girardi on why he has already given many of his starters, including Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran, a game off already this season: “I’m not running out a lot of 24- and 25-year olds.” ... According to Fangraphs.com, the best pitch in baseball is Baltimore closer Zach Britton’s sinker. For starters the best pitch is the curve thrown by Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco.
