Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg won’t make Friday start

Stephen Strasburg won’t start Friday for the Washington Nationals.
Strasburg, who is 8-6 with a 4.35 earned-run average, was limited to four innings in his last outing because of upper-back tightness.
The right-hander is scheduled to throw an extended bullpen session Thursday and Manager Matt Williams said Strasburg would
need at least two days after that before pitching.
Paul Goldschmidt leaves Diamondbacks for birth of child
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has left the Arizona Diamondbacks to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.
Manager Chip Hale said Goldschmidt is expected to rejoin the team in Chicago this weekend.
Goldschmidt began Wednesday third in the National League in hitting at .322. He has 27 home runs and 97 runs batted in, second in the league.
Mets shuffle rotation
The New York Mets announced that starter Noah Syndergaard won’t pitch this weekend in Miami when fellow rookie Steven Matz returns from injury and that Matt Harvey will likely be passed over once more in his first season back from elbow ligament-replacement surgery.
Matz is scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Marlins, his first major league outing in two months. The left-hander won his first two starts then went on the disabled list in early July because of a partially torn muscle near his armpit.
Syndergaard is expected to return to the rotation next week in Atlanta.
Spectator is injured at Fenway Park
A spectator at Boston’s Fenway Park was taken away on a stretcher after flipping over backward trying to catch a foul ball during the seventh inning of the game between the New York Yankees and Red Sox.
The spectator was in the last row of the lower box seats and landed on the concrete walkway that separates the lower and upper boxes. A witness said there was a bloody shirt on the concrete.
There was no immediate word on the person’s condition.
Several spectators have been injured at Fenway Park this season.
A man died last weekend after falling from the upper deck at Atlanta’s Turner Field.
