Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested after an argument with his wife that police said turned physical at a resort in Hawaii.

Police in Maui said in a statement Tuesday that Reyes’ wife was treated by medics at the scene then transported to a hospital.

Reyes, 32, was issued a warning citation to have no contact with his wife for three days after the arrest Oct. 31. He posted $1,000 in bond and was released.

An email and a telephone call from the Associated Press to Reyes’ agents seeking comment on the arrest were not immediately returned. It is not clear if he has a lawyer.

The Rockies said in a statement late Monday that they were “extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes.” The league said Tuesday it has started to look into the “facts and circumstances.”

Colorado acquired Reyes from Toronto in a July deal that sent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays. In 47 games with Colorado, Reyes hit .259 with three home runs.

A four-time All Star, Reyes is signed through 2017 on a $106-million, six-year contract he received from Miami.

Rob Manfred discusses protective nettings at ballparks

Ballparks differences make it impractical to have identical protective netting at all 30 big league venues, Commissioner Rob Manfred said.

The commissioner’s office has been discussing the issue with teams after injuries this year to spectators caused by foul balls this year. Owners will discuss the matter when they meet in Dallas on Nov. 18-19.

Manfred also said he remains hopeful that a big league team will play an exhibition game in Cuba during spring training next year. He said the federal government has significant influence on whether the game can take place.

U.S. teams once played spring-training games in Cuba but none appeared there from March 1959 until the Baltimore Orioles faced Cuba’s national team in Havana in March 1999. MLB has not returned since.
