The Clippers won a franchise-best seven straight games over the Lakers, but the Clippers’ starters did not have the luxury of resting in the fourth quarter this time around.

The Lakers cut the Clippers’ 12-point second-half lead to one, 89-88, with just under five minutes remaining after Robert Sacre made a hook shot. The Clippers then used an 8-0 run to re-take control of the game and grab a nine-point lead, 97-88, with three minutes left.

The Lakers countered with a 6-1 run, and in the final 15.7 seconds, Jeremy Lin made each of his four free-throw attempts to bring the Lakers to within three points of the Clippers on two different occasions, but the Lakers could not complete the comeback.

It was a far cry from Sunday’s 106-78 drubbing of the Lakers, in which the Clippers led by as many as 43 points while holding the Lakers to the fewest points they’ve ever scored against the Clippers.

With Tuesday’s win, the Clippers (53-26) are in a virtual tie with the Memphis Grizzlies for third place in the Western Conference, and are only one game behind the second-place Houston Rockets.

The Clippers only have three games remaining in the regular season.

Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick each had 27 points for the Clippers, Griffin also getting seven rebounds and six assists. Chris Paul had 19 points and 10 assists. DeAndre Jordan added eight points and 17 rebounds.

The Lakers (20-57) were led by Jordan Clarkson, who had 20 points and six assists.

Entering Tuesday’s game, the Clippers had won their last six games against the Lakers by an average of 26.6 points, including a 142-94 win on March 6 of last year that was the Lakers’ worst loss in franchise history.

Clippers 76, Lakers 69 (end of third quarter)

The Clippers’ superstar point guard had 11 points in the quarter for the Clippers, making five of his seven field-goal attempts after going zero for three in the first half. He has 17 points, five rebounds and six assists on the game.

The Clippers pushed their lead to as many as 12 points -- their biggest advantage of the game -- before Jordan Clarkson made a three-pointer with 30.1 seconds left to cut the Lakers’ deficit to nine.

Clarkson was the fouled on the Lakers’ next possession and made both of his free throws to give the Lakers a 5-0 run, and cut the Clippers’ lead to seven points heading into the fourth quarter.

Clarkson leads the Lakers with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists while Blake Griffin has 21 points, five rebounds and six assists for the Clippers.

Tarik Blake had back-to-back dunks at the top of the quarter for the Lakers. He has 14 points on five-of-eight shooting and eight rebounds. Ryan Kelly has only five points on two-of-15 shooting.

Clippers 50, Lakers 39 (halftime)

The Clippers went up by double-digits for the first time in the game, leading by as many as 11 points as they outscored the Lakers, 21-14, on the quarter.

Jamal Crawford made his first shot of the game in his first game back after missing five weeks because of a bruised right calf.

The reigning sixth man of the year, who is the king of continuation plays, hit a 21-foot fadeaway jumper at the top of the quarter, and was fouled by Jabari Brown on the shot, but Crawford missed the free throw.

Crawford had two points on one for two shooting in eight minutes.

J.J. Redick led the Clippers with 17 points on seven-for-10 shooting, including making each of his three three-point attemps. Blake Griffin had 12 points, five assists and only one rebound. DeAndre Jordan had four points on two dunks and 10 rebounds.

The Lakers were led by Jordan Clarkson, who had 10 points and four rebounds.

The Clippers are outshooting the Lakers from the field, 46.2% to 30.4%, and from beyond the three-point line, 35.7% to 15.4%.

Ed Davis received a flagrant foul 1 at the top of the quarter when he unintentionally made contact with Austin River’s head as he went after the ball while Rivers was attempting a driving layup.

Clippers 23, Lakers 21 (end of first quarter)

The Clippers led by as many as nine points before the Lakers went on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to two.

The Clippers outshot the Lakers from the field, 42.9% to 33.3%, and from beyond the three-point line, 37.5% to 20%.

J.J. Redick led all scorers with 14 points on six-for-nine shooting, which included making both of his three-point attempts. Jeremy Lin led the Lakers with six points and one assist.

DeAndre Jordan had a sequence early on in which he blocked Lin’s shot, then went down on the other end and made a slam dunk off a lob from Blake Griffin.

Just in case anyone missed it, he followed that sequence with yet another dunk on the Clippers’ next possession. Jordan had four points and five rebounds.

The Clippers have won a franchise-best six games in a row over the Lakers, most recently beating them on Sunday, 106-78.

In that game, the Clippers led by as many as 43 points and held the Lakers to the fewest points they’ve ever scored against the Clippers.

This game could have playoff implications for the Clippers (52-26), who are in fifth place in the Western Conference, 1 1/2 games behind the second-place Houston Rockets with four games remaining in the regular season.

The Lakers (20-56) have been eliminated from playoff contention and are in second-to-last place in the West.
