Xavier wins AdvoCare tournament title by beating Dayton, 90-61

Xavier went on a 25-4 run to start the second half on its way to beating in-state rival Dayton, 90-61, on Sunday night in the AdvoCare Invitational championship game at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Edmond Sumner had 14 points and Trevon Bluiett and Myles Davis 12 points apiece for the No. 23 Musketeers (7-0).

Kendall Pollard led the Flyers (5-1) with 15 points, and Scoochie Smith had 13.

Xavier reached the title game by beating Alabama, 64-45, and USC, 87-77.

This is Xavier’s first holiday tournament championship since the 2008 Puerto Rico Tipoff.

No. 3 Michigan State 77, Providence 64: The Spartans used a 21-7 run to end the game, after trailing most of the second half, to win the DirecTV Wooden Legacy tournament at Anaheim. Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists to earn most outstanding player honors.

at No. 6 Duke 85, Utah State 52: Blue Devils freshman Luke Kennard had the best game of his young career, scoring 22 points. Duke (6-1) shot a season-high 56%.

No. 11 Arizona 68, Boise State 59: Allonzo Trier and Kadeem Allen scored 13 points each for the Wildcats in the third-place game of the DirecTV Wooden Legacy tournament at Anaheim.

Alabama 74, No. 17 Notre Dame 73: Retin Obasohan scored a layup with eight seconds left for the Crimson Tide. The Irish had a chance to win with two seconds left, but Demetrius Jackson’s layup was off the mark.

Iowa 84, No. 20 Wichita State 61: The Hawkeyes scored the upset in the seventh-place game at the AdvoCare Invitational. The Shockers played without forward Anton Grady, who is recovering from what doctors believe is a spinal cord concussion suffered in Friday’s game. He flew home with the team.
