College basketball: No. 22 Baylor beats Creighton for Hall of Fame Classic title

King McClure had 19 points, Terry Maston made a series of big baskets down the stretch and No. 22 Baylor rallied to beat Creighton 65-59 on Tuesday night in the Hall of Fame Classic title game at Kansas City, Mo.

Maston finished with 15 points, and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. had 15 points and 15 rebounds as the Bears (5-0) won their 11th consecutive in-season tournament game. They won the Battle 4 Atlantis last season.

Creighton (4-1), which defeated UCLA to reach the title game, made only five of 30 three-pointers.

at No. 3 Kansas 114, Texas Southern 71: Svi Mykhailiuk scored 21 points, Udoka Azubuike added 20 and the Jayhawks made 17 three-pointers in the Jayhawks’ first game of the Hoophall Miami Invitational.

No. 6 Wichita State 80, Marquette 66: Landry Shamet scored 19 points and the Shockers shot 54% to reach the Maui Invitational title game. The Shockers (4-0) shot 54% to earn a spot in Wednesday’s championship game against No. 13 Notre Dame, which routed Louisiana State 92-53. Temple Gibbs had 26 points, making six three-pointers, for the Fighting Irish (5-0).

No. 12 Cincinnati 75, Richmond 48: Cane Broome led a balanced attack with 13 points and the Bearcats used a dominant first half to roll into the championship game of the Cayman Islands Classic. Cincinnati will face Wyoming, which defeated Louisiana Lafayette.

No. 16 Texas A&M 98, Penn State 87: Robert Williams had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Aggies in the championship game of the Progressive Legends Classic at Barclays Center. Duane Wilson led the Aggies (4-0) with 22 points. Tony Carr had a career-high 31 points for Penn State (5-1).

at No. 19 Louisville 84, Southern Illinois 42: Jordan Nwora came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points, Deng Adel had 16 points and the Cardinals (3-0) doubled up on the Salukis.

at No. 25 Alabama 77, Texas Arlington 76: Collin Sexton scored 29 points as the Crimson Tide rallied.

Porter out

Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing lower back surgery.

The 6-foot-10 Porter, the top prep prospect in the country last season, played in only two minutes of the season-opening win over Iowa State before missing the last three games with the injury. The school said Tuesday that he will undergo surgery in Dallas, and his expected recovery time is three to four months.

Porter averaged 36.2 points and 13.6 rebounds as a senior in high school in Washington.

Southeast Missouri State 74, Cal State Northridge 59: Ledarrius Brewer made four three-pointers and scored 20 points to lift the Redhawks at the Cancun Challenge. Micheal Warren scored 14 points with eight rebounds, and Lyrik Shreiner also had 14 for the Matadors (1-3).

UC Santa Barbara 80, Montana 73: Max Heidegger scored 27 points to lift the Gauchos in the Legends Classic championship at Malibu. Heidegger was 13 of 16 from the free-throw line. Leland King II added 20 points for UC Santa Barbara (3-2).

at Pepperdine 80, Oral Roberts 76: Freshman Colbey Ross scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half to help the Waves overcome a 15-point deficit in the Legends Classic. Emmanuel Nzekwesi had 17 points and Albert Owens 16 to lead the Golden Hurricane.
