Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett will forfeit his summer financial aid as part of his punishment for being cited on suspicion of operating a vehicle while impaired.

Barrett was cited for the alleged misdemeanor early Saturday by Columbus police and suspended one game by Coach Urban Meyer.

“I told him that’s the toughest thing you’ll have to deal with,” Meyer said. “Now there are questions [about] who you are. He’s never had to deal with that.”

Barrett will sit out this week when the top-ranked Buckeyes play Minnesota at home. Cardale Jones, who started the first seven games of the season, will start in Barrett’s place. Braxton Millerwill be the Buckeyes’ No. 2 quarterback this week. Ohio State did not play last Saturday weekend.

Baylor QB’s surgery

Baylor quarterback Seth Russell is expected to make a full recovery after season-ending neck surgery.

“Lot of really good news on that end,” Coach Art Briles said. “Everything went as well as could be expected.”

Russell had surgery Friday to repair damage to his cervical vertebra. He fractured a bone in his neck late in a 45-27 win over Iowa State on Oct. 24.

Russell was the top-rated passer in the Football Bowl Subdivision when he got hurt, completing 119 of 200 passes for 2,104 yards with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions The second-ranked Bears (7-0, 4-0 Big 12 Conference) play their first game without Russell on Thursday night at Kansas State. Freshman Jarrett Stidham will take over as the starter.

Fresno State player Christian Malik Pryor was arrested Monday in connection with a social media post that said the sender planned to “release my frustrations” with gunfire on campus, the Fresno Bee said. The newspaper said Pryor was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of making a criminal threat. Bail was set at $20,000. ...
