Chase Utley made a brief appearance in the Dodgers’ rout of San Francisco on Tuesday night. He hit a single off the bench in the sixth inning and scored on a double by Andrew Toles. After an inning in the field, Manager Dave Roberts removed Utley because of soreness in one of his feet.

Roberts was unsure which foot was giving Utley trouble, but said the second baseman has “been maintenance-ing his foot for about a month.”

“That’s why we had to get him out of the game,” Roberts said. “He couldn’t stay on his feet any longer.”

Roberts listed Utley as day to day.

With Brett Anderson on the disabled list because of a blister on his left index finger, Ross Stripling has been tabbed to start in his place on Thursday against the Giants. The Dodgers chose Stripling over Bud Norris, who could still start one of the games this weekend against the Chicago Cubs.
