Dodgers’ Paul Maholm has solid start in 2-1 loss to Giants

ON THE MOUND: Paul Maholm’s second start for the Dodgers was significantly better than his first, as he limited the Giants to a run and five hits over six innings. A 1-1 tie was broken in the seventh inning, when J.P. Howell gave up a two-out single to Pablo Sandoval that drove in Joaquin Arias.

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, when Maholm drew a walk and scored from first base on a triple by Dee Gordon. Adrian Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single to right field in the seventh inning after Hanley Ramirez was injured when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch.

EXTRA BASES: Yasiel Puig issued a statement saying he wouldn’t be making any statements about a Los Angeles Magazine article detailing his escape from Cuba. The statement was released by Puig’s agent, Adam Katz. It read: “I’m aware of the recent articles and news accounts. I understand that people are curious and have questions, but I will have no comment on this subject. I’m represented on this matter, and I’m only focused on being a productive teammate and helping the Dodgers win games.”
