Dodgers, Angels interested in pitcher Bronson Arroyo

Free-agent pitcher Bronson Arroyo, who went 14-12 with a 3.79 earned-run average for the Cincinnati Reds last season, told MLB Network Radio on Monday that both the Dodgers and Angels are among four teams known to have expressed interest in him this winter.

Arroyo turns 37 in February but is looking for a three-year deal, which might be warranted considering his health and track record.

The right-hander has made 32 or more starts in each of the last nine seasons, and he struck out 124 and walked only 34 in 202 innings in 2013. His one blemish: a National League-leading 32 home runs allowed.

Arroyo, who has a 138-127 career record and 4.19 ERA in 14 big-league seasons, could be an option for the Angels if they are unable to re-sign free-agent left-hander Jason Vargas. Or, he could fill a spot in the Dodgers rotation vacated by free agent Ricky Nolasco.

Arroyo said the San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins and, possibly, the Baltimore Orioles have reached out to his agent, but he has not received any formal offers.

Arroyo did not receive a $14.1-million qualifying offer from the Reds, so the team that signs him will not lose a draft pick as compensation.
