Boise State drops Fresno State, 61-10

Kyle Wilson returned a punt 90 yards, wide receiver Tanyon Bissell threw for a touchdown on a reverse pass, and No. 9-ranked Boise State defeated Fresno State, 61-10, Friday night at Boise, Idaho.

The Broncos (12-0) scored 48 points in the second half.

Senior Ian Johnson ran for 128 yards and scored two touchdowns. He tied the Western Athletic Conference record of 57 touchdowns rushing, set by Marshall Faulk at San Diego State in 1991-93.

The Broncos trailed for only the third time this season early and led, 13-10, before Jeremy Avery ran for a 43-yard touchdown three minutes into the third quarter. Then came three more touchdowns in a 3 1/2 -minute span to clinch Boise State’s third undefeated regular season in four years.

Representatives of the Rose, Orange and Sugar bowls watched the rout.

Fresno State (7-5) already had clinched its ninth bowl berth in 10 years.

Record day

Andy Schmitt set an NCAA record with 58 completions, Tyler Jones tied the NCAA Division I record with 23 receptions and Eastern Michigan beat Central Michigan, 56-52.

Schmitt’s completions at Ypsilanti, Mich., surpassed the NCAA record of 57, set by Jeremy Moses of Stephen F. Austin this season. Schmitt threw 80 passes and his 516 yards set an Eastern Michigan record. He threw five touchdown passes.

Jones’ 23 receptions tied the mark of Nevada Las Vegas’ Randy Gatewood, set in 1994. Jerry Rice of Mississippi Valley State holds the overall NCAA record of 24 catches in 1983.

Jevan Snead threw for 213 yards and four touchdowns and No. 25 Mississippi (8-4, 5-3 SEC) beat Mississippi State, 45-0, at Oxford. The Bulldogs (4-8, 2-6) were held to a minus-51 yards rushing. . . . LeSean McCoy scored on a one-yard run with 52 seconds left to finish off a 183-yard performance and give host Pittsburgh (8-3, 4-2 Big East Conference) a 19-15 victory over West Virginia (7-4, 4-2).
