Connor Skertich throws five shutout innings in 9-0 win
A 5-0 start and a championship in the Easton tournament is a pretty good indication that Sherman Oaks Notre Dame is a team to watch in high school baseball this season.
The Knights’ 9-0 victory over Camarillo on Tuesday night at Birmingham was all about their pitching depth. Connor Skertich, a sophomore left-hander who threw mainly in relief last season, got a chance to start as the Knights search for a No. 3 starter. He struck out six and allowed no hits in five innings.
Camarillo pitchers had trouble throwing strikes, giving up seven walks. A seven-run fourth featured two runs coming home on bases loaded walks and two more scoring on a wild pitch. Michael Whiteside, a linebacker for the football team, scored three runs and walked three times. Lucas Gordon had two hits for the Knights.
