Juniors lead win over El Camino Real

Long Beach Poly coach Shelton Diggs and Taft coach Derrick Taylor have spent all season trying to figure out how to win big games with starting lineups relying solely on guards. The strategy has been to fight like heck for rebounds and loose balls and make some outside shots.

Both schools came through Wednesday night in Southern California Division I regional playoff openers.

Poly had four players score double digits in a 69-53 victory over host El Camino Real. Junior guards Malik Salahuddin, Justin Rene and Giordan Williams were outstanding, scoring 22, 13 and 11 points, respectively. Senior guard Darryl Polk Jr. added 14 points. Eddy Egun led El Camino Real with 26 points.
