Lab Results on Bryant Given to Authorities

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation lab on Monday supplied the Eagle County Sheriff’s department and District Attorney with some preliminary test results on evidence taken from Laker star Kobe Bryant and the 19-year-old woman who has accused him of sexual assault.

District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said he had not yet examined the results and that a decision whether to file charges would not come until Wednesday at the earliest.

The accusations against Bryant stem from an alleged incident on the night of June 30 at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo., where the woman worked.

Bryant supplied DNA to authorities on July 2. His accuser also supplied evidence, authorities said, although they would not say when or where.

Bryant, 24, proclaimed his innocence Saturday in an interview with The Times, and one of his attorneys, Pamela Mackey, said Monday: “We continue to believe that once Mark Hurlbert completes his investigation, Kobe will be cleared of any criminal misconduct. Everything we continue to learn supports that.”

Hurlbert’s decision on charges probably won’t be made until more evidence is supplied by the CBI.

“As results are identified, they are being given, and laboratory analysis is ongoing,” CBI spokesman Pete Mang said. “There is no estimated completion time for all of the evidence.”
