The setting: With 42 seconds remaining in overtime at Madison Square Garden, Goodrich made a 17-foot shot to put the Lakers ahead, 115-111.
The significance: GoodrichÂ’s basket came after Jerry West made two free throws to break a 111-111 tie with 1:15 left. The LakersÂ’ 116-111 victory gave them a 3-1 series lead and they clinched their first Los Angeles championship with a 114-100 victory two days later at the Forum.
