The setting: The Lakers trailed the Celtics by a point when Magic dribbled into the key and put up his “junior junior sky hook” over Kevin McHale, Larry Bird and Robert Parish. The shot went through with two seconds left at the Boston Garden, securing a 107-106 victory.
The significance: The victory gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead in the Finals and they clinched the title in Game 6 at the Forum. Magic called the shot the biggest of his career. The Lakers had easily won the first two games of the series at home, but lost Game 3 in Boston and trailed in Game 4 by 16 points in the second half. MagicÂ’s shot kept the Celtics from having all the momentum heading into Game 5. |
