The setting: OÂ’Neal leapt high in the air and threw down a one-handed dunk off an alley-oop pass from Kobe Bryant to give the Lakers an 85-79 lead with 41.9 seconds remaining.
The significance: The Staples Center crowd may never have been louder than when OÂ’Neal finished off a 25-4 run that helped the Lakers reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1991. The Lakers trailed, 75-60, before pulling off the biggest fourth-quarter rally in a Game 7 in league history. Their 89-84 victory sent them to the Finals, where they beat the Indiana Pacers in six games for their first title since 1988. |
