The setting: With 1.5 seconds left, Horry picked up a loose ball 25 feet from the basket, put up a shot with 0.6 seconds left and swished a three-pointer to give the Lakers a 100-99 victory at Staples Center.
The significance: The shot, which gave the Lakers their first lead since 2-0, allowed the Lakers to tie the series at 2-2. It prevented the Kings, who had a 24-point lead in the second quarter, from winning a third straight game and going home with a chance to end the series. The Lakers won the series in seven games, taking Game 7 in overtime in Sacramento, and swept the New Jersey Nets for their third consecutive NBA title.
