The setting: With the first half about to end, Magic rebounded an air ball by the Nuggets' Bill Hanzlik, took a couple of steps to his right and made a one-handed shot from 80 feet.
The significance: The three-pointer put the Lakers ahead 82-53 at halftime. The Forum crowd stood cheering for a minute as the teams left the court. The 82 points tied a playoff record and the Lakers cruised to a 128-95 victory. "We wouldn't show up Saturday [for Game 2] if the league would let us," said Nuggets Coach Doug Moe, who knew his team had no chance to win the series. He was right. The Lakers swept the Nuggets in three games and went 15-3 in the postseason on the way to the title. Note: All captions in this photo gallery were written by Hans Tesselaar. |
