14. Jerry West vs. New York Knicks, Game 3 NBA Finals, April 29, 1970.( NBA TV )
The setting: With three seconds left in regulation at the Forum, Dave DeBusschere made a 20-foot shot to give the Knicks a two-point lead. West, with the Lakers out of timeouts, took the inbounds pass, dribbled near midcourt and put up an arching one-handed shot from about 60 feet. It went in, sending the game to overtime.
The significance: Unfortunately for the Lakers, they couldnÂ’t ride the momentum from WestÂ’s shot (in the pre three-point days) to victory. Their 111-108 loss left them in a 2-1 deficit in the series, which they lost in seven games. West, who sprained his wrist in overtime, played all 53 minutes and missed all five shots he took in the extra session. |
