The setting: Holding a three-point lead, the Lakers got the ball inside to Abdul-Jabbar, who missed a hook shot. Jamaal Wilkes and Magic Johnson missed follow shots, but Bob McAdoo got the rebound. The ball went back to Abdul-Jabbar, who missed another hook, but got the rebound and went back up with a shot. The ball bounced three times on the rim before falling in. Fouled on the play, Abdul-Jabbar made the free throw to give the Lakers a 106-100 lead with 3:07 left at the Forum.
The significance: The shot put the final dagger in the 76ers, who had been rallying at that point. The LakersÂ’ 114-104 victory secured their second title in three seasons. |
