Kevin Martin going to Timberwolves

Kevin Martin is leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to rejoin former coach Rick Adelman with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A person with knowledge of the deal said Martin agreed Tuesday to terms with the Timberwolves on a four-year deal worth as much as $30 million.

The Timberwolves also agreed to terms on a three-year, $16-million deal with free-agent swingman Chase Budinger.

Martin averaged 14.0 points and shot 42.6% on three-pointers last year in a bench role for the Thunder. He will become a starter in Minnesota, where the Timberwolves have been desperately looking for three-point shooters after finishing last in the league in that department last season.

Martin played for Adelman with the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

Knicks interested in Brand

The New York Knicks have expressed interest in veteran free-agent big man Elton Brand, Newsday reported. The first overall pick in 1999 is intrigued about playing for the Knicks, but they’re not the only team pursuing Brand.

“Elton’s from New York,” Brand’s agent, David Falk, said. “The Knicks have a really good team. He’s definitely interested in New York. But it’s early. He’s exploring his options. We very much appreciate the interest the Knicks have shown in Elton.”

The Knicks could dip into their $3.18-million mini-midlevel exception to pay Brand, a two-time All-Star who has career averages of 17.4 points and 9.1 rebounds. But it’s more likely that they will offer him the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million.

The Indiana Pacers are finalizing an agreement to re-sign forward David West to a three-year, $36-million deal, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. West is a vital member of the Pacers’ core, not only for his production (17.1 points and 7.7 rebounds a game last season) but for the leadership that has helped them become one of the premier teams in the Eastern Conference.

With the threat of an offer sheet from a conference rival, the San Antonio Spurs have locked up center Tiago Splitter for the long term. According to Yahoo Sports, the Spurs and Splitter are finalizing a four-year, $36-million deal. The Portland Trail Blazers were said to be interested in Splitter for a number in that same ballpark. Splitter averaged 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Spurs last season.

Veteran center Nazr Mohammed tweeted that he has verbally agreed to return to the Chicago Bulls. Mohammed averaged 2.6 points and 3.1 rebounds last season playing behind Joakim Noah.

Martell Webster has agreed to a four-year deal to stay with the Washington Wizards. Bringing back Webster was a priority for the Wizards. The eight-year veteran swingman averaged a career-high 11.4 points last season and was a respected locker room leader. He could also serve as a mentor for Otto Porter, chosen No. 3 overall by Washington last month in the draft.
