Keeping tabs on former Lakers

The Lakers rarely lose desired players. Although Dwight Howard left for the Houston Rockets in free agency, there are only 13 former Lakers currently under contract to other NBA teams:

• Point guards: Derek Fisher (Oklahoma City Thunder), Ramon Sessions (Charlotte Bobcats).
• Shooting guards: Shannon Brown (Phoenix Suns).
• Small forwards: Metta World Peace (New York Knicks), Matt Barnes (Clippers), Caron Butler (Suns), Trevor Ariza (Washington Wizards).
• Power forwards: Josh McRoberts (Bobcats), Earl Clark (Cleveland Cavaliers).
• Centers: Dwight Howard (Rockets), Andrew Bynum (Cavaliers), Ronny Turiaf (Minnesota Timberwolves), Kwame Brown (Philadelphia 76ers).

Collectively, that’s a powerful team in the middle and at small forward but a little iffy at guard, with all due respect to Fisher, Sessions and Brown.

Free agents Antawn Jamison, Darius Morris, Devin Ebanks, Luke Walton, Vladimir Radmanovic, Jannero Pargo and Lamar Odom all remain unsigned.

Andrew Goudelock recently signed a deal to play in Russia.

Odom has a remote chance to return to the Lakers, although there doesn’t seem to be anything in the works. After the Lakers traded the forward to the Dallas Mavericks, he was dealt to the Clippers.

The Clippers are still looking to add a forward, although they recently signed Byron Mullens to a two-year deal.

After one season with the Lakers, it doesn’t appear likely that Jamison will be back.

Left off the list is Marc Gasol, who was drafted by the Lakers but traded to the Memphis Grizzlies (for his brother Pau) before signing his first NBA contract. Also omitted: Chris Paul, who was almost traded to the Lakers before Commissioner David Stern blocked the proposed deal.
