Boise State won’t join Big East

Share

Boise State has backed out on a commitment to join the Big East Conference and will remain a member of the Mountain West.

The school and the conference announced they had come to an agreement to keep the Broncos playing in the league they have been a part of the last two seasons.

Boise State was scheduled to join the Big East next season for football only. It was going to put its other sports in the Big West.

But more recent Big East defections made Boise State reconsider.

Boise State says that as part of its agreement with the Mountain West, TV rights to its home football games will not be part of the conference’s future media contracts.

UCLA junior linebacker Anthony Barr has decided to remain for his senior season instead of making himself available for the NFL draft.

Barr, a receiver his first two seasons, made an impressive transition to defense this season. He finished with 13.5 sacks, the most in the nation. He was named second-team All-American by the Associated Press.

Galaxy acquires goalkeeper Cudicini

The MLS-champion Galaxy acquired goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini from Tottenham on a free transfer. He has a deep reservoir of European experience, ranging from the Serie A in Italy to Britain’s Premier League.

The move sets up a reunion with former Spurs teammate Robbie Keane and signals the probable end of goalkeeper Josh Saunders’ run with the Galaxy. Cudicini, who made 37 appearances with the Spurs after joining Tottenham from Chelsea in 2009, turned 39 in September and became expendable with the Spurs’ glut of goalies on their roster.
