Top-ranked USC won the inaugural NCAA beach volleyball championship, defeating Florida State, 3-0, in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Trojans (34-2), who also won the AVCA national title last year before the sport had an official NCAA championship designation, finished the season on a 30-match win streak. It was USC’s 124th team national title in all sports and 101st NCAA championship.

All-Americans Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes defeated Florida State’s Julie Brown and Jace Pardon, 21-15, 21-10, to complete a 48-0 season and extend their winning streak to 73 victories. They dropped only one set all season and were chosen to the all-tournament team at the No. 1 position.

USC’s Jo Kremer and Zoe Nightingale were all-tournament selections at the No. 5 spot.

Florida State reached the final by beating UCLA, 3-1, in the first match Sunday.
