Chargers’ Ryan Mathews, Mike Scifres ruled out for Chiefs game

Running back Ryan Mathews has been ruled out of San Diego’s game at Kansas City, which the Chargers must win to clinch a wild-card berth.

Mathews will miss his third straight game with what’s believed to be a high ankle sprain.

Also ruled out on Friday was punter Mike Scifres, who broke his left collarbone in the loss to New England.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen is listed as doubtful with a broken right collarbone and is expected to miss his second straight game.

Rookie center Chris Watt (calf) was limited in practice and is listed as questionable. If he can’t go, Trevor Robinson would become the fifth Chargers player to start at center this year.

Rookie quarterback Connor Shaw will come off Cleveland’s practice squad and start the season finale on Sunday against Baltimore.

With Brian Hoyer still slowed by a sore right throwing shoulder, Shaw will be behind center when the Browns conclude another disappointing season against the Ravens, who still have a shot at the playoffs.

An undrafted free agent, Shaw is the third quarterback to start for the Browns this season and the 22nd for the franchise since 1999.

The Seattle Seahawks could get two key offensive linemen back for their regular-season finale against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Left tackle Russell Okung has been cleared to play after bruising a lung two weeks ago against San Francisco.

Center Max Unger, who has missed the last five games after suffering a high-ankle sprain against Kansas City, worked in consecutive practices this week for the first time since being injured. Coach Pete Carroll was hopeful Unger might be able to play.

The Buffalo Bills may be without two of their best defensive players for their season finale against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and cornerback Stephon Gilmore are listed as doubtful.

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is listed as probable for Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons after missing the last three games because of a broken hand.

Robert Griffin III is listed as probable for the Washington Redskins’ season finale after taking part in a full practice.

Griffin sprained his throwing shoulder in the fourth quarter of last week’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
