Roeland Schaftenaar scored a career-high 22 points and Calvin Haynes came off the bench to make a pair of three-point baskets as part of a big second-half run as Oregon State beat California, 69-65, on Thursday at Berkeley.

It was Coach Craig Robinson’s first game since attending the presidential inauguration for his brother-in-law, Barack Obama.

Robinson, the Beavers’ first-year coach and the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama, flew to Washington earlier this week before rejoining the Beavers in time for their first win since beating USC in their second Pacific 10 Conference game.

Haynes finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for Oregon State (7-10, 2-4). The Beavers had lost six straight regular season games to the Golden Bears before rallying from 11 points down midway through the second half and handing California its second straight loss.

Jerome Randle had 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Bears (15-4, 4-2), who fell out of first place in the Pac-10.

Jamal Boykin recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Patrick Christopher had 15 points for California, which had won nine straight before losing to Stanford on Saturday.

California led 62-51 with 9:37 to play but faltered.

It was the Beavers’ first win against the Bears since the 2005-06 season.

Stanford 77, Oregon 55 -- Anthony Goods scored 20 points and Landry Field had 13 in helping the Cardinal (13-3, 3-3) roll to the easy win over the Ducks (6-13, 0-7) at Palo Alto.

Kamyron Brown scored 11 points for Oregon, which is off to its worst conference start since losing 11 straight in the 1992-93 conference season. Matthew Humphrey scored all 10 of his points in the second half.

Stanford played without senior point guard Mitch Johnson, who sat out because of a lower calf strain.
