Aaron Hernandez indicted in 2012 Boston double slaying

The trouble continues to mount for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez, already being held without bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of murder in the slaying of associate Odin Lloyd last summer, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges related to a 2012 double slaying in Boston, according to multiple news reports.

In the 2012 case, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were gunned down as they sat in a car in Boston’s South End. They were shot by someone who pulled alongside them in an SUV and opened fire, police say.

According to WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Fla., court documents say that Hernandez played a major role in the double slaying. Those documents were unsealed in January.

The TV station said the documents suggest Hernandez was the trigger man in the killings of Abreu and Furtado. A warrant was issued last year to search a Toyota 4Runner linked to Hernandez that witnesses say they saw at the scene of the crime, according to the documents.

That 4Runner was found at the home of Hernandez’s uncle in Bristol, Conn., and the warrant gave authorities permission to search for gun residue on and in the SUV.

According to various reports, investigators say Hernandez and another man, later identified as Alexander Bradley, followed Abreu and Furtado into a Boston club called Cure Lounge. Court papers say Hernandez and Bradley can be seen on security cameras following Abreu and Furtado out of the club, and that witnesses said multiple shots were fired from the SUV into a BMW containing Abreu and Furtado before the SUV sped away.

The families of the slain men filed wrongful death lawsuits against Hernandez in February, with each seeking $6 million.
