Angels beat the Royals in season opener, 5-0
Thanks to six hits and five runs in the eighth inning, the Angels celebrated opening night Friday with a 5-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals at a sold-out Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
Peter Bourjos’ infield single started the scoring, and was quickly followed by a three-run triple to right field by Erick Aybar, making a winner of pitcher Jered Weaver, who struck out 10 with no walks in eight innings of work. Weaver finished at 97 pitches.
Aybar scored on a single by Torii Hunter, as the Angels withstood a hitless night by star Albert Pujols in his Anaheim debut.
