Colts owner Jim Irsay weighs in on ‘Deflategate’ via Twitter

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has been abnormally quiet on Twitter for most of the past week, but he broke his silence Sunday with a series of mostly high-road tweets that praised the New England Patriots.

The Patriots are under investigation by the NFL for using underinflated balls during their 45-7 victory over the Colts in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 18. In a series of posts, Irsay praised the Patriots before mentioning his confidence in the NFL’s investigation:

“We congratulate the Patriots as AFC champions. We knew the difficulties of going to New England and did not overcome the obstacles we faced.”

“Our rivalry with the Pats is something we treasure in the depths of our competitive soul, where the fire burns hot. We look forward to 2015.”

“Seahawks/Pats will be a great Super Bowl. It’s a great matchup between defending champions and a team with championship lineage.”

“We are confident the NFL and commissioner will address the concerns that [arose] from our champ game. The integrity of the game is critical.”

However, most of these messages seem in contrast to the somewhat cryptic message Irsay posted Tuesday, which quoted lyrics from the Led Zeppelin song “Kashmir”:

“Talk of days, of how they sit and wait ... all will be revealed.”

The NFL announced Friday that it won’t wrap up its investigation into “Deflategate” until after the Super Bowl, which is Sunday.
