What do Phillip Phillips and Jeremy Lin have in common?
Phillip Phillips won “American Idol” on Wednesday night. Jeremy Lin is the point guard for the New York Knicks. They seemingly don’t have a lot in common. But do they?
Lin became an Internet sensation after moving into the Knicks’ starting lineup after a Carmelo Anthony injury. Phillips became an Internet sensation after channeling Dave Matthews and never finishing in the bottom three during his entire “American Idol” stay.
Lin was injured late in the season, tearing a meniscus in his knee. Phillips was also injured, suffering two kidney stones that often prevented him from taking part in a lot of the promotional appearances each week, including the Ford videos.
Lin is a young man, 23, who a lot of young girls went crazy over. Phillips is a young man, 21, who a lot of young girls went crazy over.
Lin was basically a flash-in-the-pan, as far as nationwide attention went. Many people today are predicting Phillips to be a flash-in-the-plan who will enjoy extremely limited success.
Lin has a couple of books written about him. Phillips has had a couple of songs written for him.
Makes you wonder what Jimmy Iovine thinks of Jeremy Lin, doesn’t it?
