Tim Tebow on more ESPN fantasy teams than one actual starting NFL QB
Tim Tebow is really kicking butt in fantasy football this year -- and, no, I’m not talking about as an owner in some fantasy league out there.
I mean as an actual football player drafted by franchise owners on their fantasy teams.
Of course, Tebow hasn’t scored any fantasy points for those owners yet. No NFL player has; the season doesn’t start until Thursday.
But the difference between Tebow and those other NFL players is that ... well, they are NFL players and Tebow isn’t -- hasn’t been since 2012. For some reason, however, that hasn’t stopped many fantasy league owners from drafting him onto their teams here in 2014.
According to the latest numbers, Tebow is owned in 1.5% of the ESPN fantasy football league, ranking him at No. 36 for all quarterbacks. That means he is owned in more leagues than a number of backups on actual NFL rosters -- as well as Chad Henne (No. 40 at .6%, who is the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The good news for Henne is that he comes in one spot higher than another free agent quarterback, Daunte Culpepper, who is owned in .3% of ESPN’s leagues even though he hasn’t played since 2009.
And as the season gets closer, Tebow is becoming an even hotter commodity. The percentage of leagues with an owner taking their chances on the current SEC Network analyst has almost doubled in the last week (up from .8% seven days ago).
Seems like a pretty silly move to me. But then again, I finished at .500 in my league last year (actually one of my better seasons) -- and that was with Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson on my team. So what do I know?
