Mustangs rally from big deficit, beat the Waves, 83-77

at Cal Poly SLO 83, Pepperdine 77: Shawn Lewis had 22 points, five assists, three steals and three blocks as the Mustangs (2-5) rallied from as much as 19 points down to beat the Waves (3-5). Lewis led five Mustangs players who scored in double figures, including Will Donahue with 17 points and Kyle Lewis with 16. Lorenzo Keeler scored 11 points and David Hanson 10 for Cal Poly. Jonathan Dupre led Pepperdine with 19 points. Keion Bell had 18. The Waves sprinted to leads of 28-9 and 30-11 in the opening 14 minutes of the game before Cal Poly mounted its comeback. Lewis scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half.

San Diego State 69, at UC Santa Barbara 61: Tyrone Shelley scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Malcolm Thomas scored 15 points and the Aztecs (6-2) got by the Gauchos. Kawhi Leonard (nine rebounds) and D.J. Gay each finished with 13 points for the Aztecs, who shot 50.9% and never trailed. James Powell made six three-point baskets and led the Gauchos with 20 points.

at Stephen F. Austin 62, Cal State Fullerton 61: Denzel Barnes made two free throws with a second left to lift the Lumberjacks (5-2) to a victory over the Titans (3-2) and a win in the Etech Lumberjack Classic. Fullerton had taken the lead in the final minute with a three-pointer from Orane Chin and a pair of free throws by Jacques Streeter. The Lumberjacks’ Walt Harris led the game in scoring with 20 points and teammate Jordan Glynn had a double-double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jer’Vaughn Johnson scored eight of his team-leading 13 points in the second half for the Titans.

at Wyoming 76, Loyola Marymount 70: Ryan Dermody scored 15 points as the Cowboys (4-4) defeated the Lions (3-6). The Cowboys led by as many as 13 late in the first half, but the Lions regained the lead with 12 minutes remaining. The Lions were up by three with 2:48 to play, only to see the Cowboys outscore them 10-1 down the stretch. Kevin Young and Vernon Teel scored 16 points each for Loyola. The Lions out-rebounded the Cowboys 53-30, grabbing 27 offensive rebounds.
