Every UCLA quarterback, except one, waited on a bench outside the locker room Wednesday morning.

Then Brett Hundley burst out the door. Everyone stood up and headed into practice.

Hundley, who injured his elbow against Texas on Saturday, was in full uniform. He did not have a bandage or brace on his left arm.

The practice was closed to the media, but it is unlikely Hundley worked much. He did not leave practice with the team, as he apparently slipped out a side gate to receive treatment along with tackle Malcolm Bunche (leg) and safety Anthony Jefferson (ankle).

Hundley is believed to have suffered a hyperextended elbow. He is expected to play against Arizona State on Sept. 25. All Coach Jim Mora would say about the injured players was, “They work with our medical staff to get back out there as quick as they can. When they’re ready to go, they put them back out there.”

Jerry Neuheisel came off the bench after Hundley was injured to rally the Bruins to a 20-17 victory over Texas. But Mora was not ready to commit to Neuheisel as the team’s No. 2 quarterback.

“Just because Jerry went into that game doesn’t mean he’s our backup quarterback,” Mora said. “We have never determined who is No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 guy. We have a whole bunch of guys. Next time someone has to go in, it could be Asiantii [Woulard]. Heck, he might start the Arizona State game.”

Do the Bruins need a new starting quarterback for the Arizona State game?

“We might,” Mora said, smiling. “You never know.”

New recruit

Defensive lineman Takkerist McKinley, who signed a letter of intent last week, joined the Bruins on Wednesday to begin his acclimation period. Mora expects McKinley, who is immediately eligible, to play against Arizona State.

“He practiced today and looked good,” Mora said. “He can give us 10-15 plays per game. He will add to what we have with our other guys. We just have to get him in the shape he needs to be to play at this level.”

Quick hits

Freshman linebacker Dwight Williams underwent surgery on his right knee Monday and is probably lost for the season. … Mora said the coaches had started preparation for the Arizona State game and players would start this weekend. “It is really important these two days to focus on us,” Mora said. “Make sure we have of stuff locked down.”
