When it came to unlikely heroes in the rivalry, fourth-string quarterback John Barnes of UCLA comes to mind for his performance in the 1992 game. Barnes passed for 385 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-37 upset of USC. Again, neither team would play in the Rose Bowl.
