USC halfback Mickey McCardle is brought down by UCLA's Herb Wiener after a five-yard gain during the Sept. 25, 1943, game. The programs would schedule two games for the 1943, '44 and '45 seasons because of travel restrictions during World War II. USC would win nine of the 13 games played in the '40s, with the fourth tie of the series coming at the start of '44.
