UCLA captain Ted Forbes was stopped on the opening kickoff of the Dec. 6, 1941, game by USC's Bill Bundy. The game would end in a tie, 7-7, the third in the series. In 1942, the Bruins would collect their first victory in the rivalry game, 14-7, and earn a trip to the Rose Bowl. The Victory Bell became the annual traveling trophy as well that year. For the record: An earlier version of this caption said the game was played on Dec. 7, 1941.
