The Lakers moved into August, traditionally one of the quietest NBA months before the preseason starts up at the end of September.

Second-year power forward Ryan Kelly married Lindsay Cowher, daughter of the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach.

Shooting guard MarShon Brooks, who was briefly with the Lakers last season, agreed to play overseas for Italian club Olimpia Milano. Brooks is the final player on the 2013-14 Lakers roster to find a home.

Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant passed Kobe Bryant as the favorite player among NBA rookies, according to a poll conducted by NBA.com.

Byron Scott settled in as coach of the Lakers -- back in the city of his youth, and where he won three titles during the Showtime era.

Scott spoke on radio, vowing that although the Lakers may have a tough road ahead, they will play defense.

Via Twitter, he also gave his initial thoughts on Bryant, Julius Randle, Ed Davis, Jordan Hill, Jordan Clarkson and other aspects of the Lakers’ roster. Look for the Lakers to go to Bryant in the “post, mid-post, & elbows a lot.” The team will also run the pick and roll with guards Jeremy Lin and Steve Nash.
