Lakers’ Nick Young could return from injury next week

A torn thumb ligament has kept Nick Young off the court for the Lakers this season.

Lakers forward Nick Young could return for next week’s trip that begins Tuesday in Atlanta, Lakers Coach Byron Scott said. He has been sidelined almost six weeks because of a torn thumb ligament.

The Lakers will see how he looks in individual workouts Sunday and Monday before deciding on his Tuesday availability, Scott added.

“It’s a mystery,” Young said with a shrug as he ran onto the court for some pregame shooting Wednesday.

Young averaged a career-high 17.9 points last season and made 2.1 three-pointers a game, production the Lakers could obviously use.
