Lakers’ Andrew Bynum (sprained left ankle) listed as day-to-day

Andrew Bynum’s sprained left ankle was not considered serious enough to follow up with an MRI exam, and the Lakers are officially listing their center as day-to-day before Tuesday’s game against New Jersey.

Bynum was injured Sunday against Golden State after an awkward landing while trying to block the shot of Warriors power forward David Lee. X-rays were negative at the time.

Bynum went to the team’s training facility Monday and underwent a series of treatments with long-time trainer Gary Vitti, including electro-stimulation, ice and manual therapy, according to Lakers spokesman John Black.

He left Sunday’s game with 1:49 to go in the first quarter and limped while exiting the arena. He was not using crutches and declined the option to be driven to his car in a golf cart.

If Bynum can’t play, Troy Murphy might get the call at center for the Lakers. He started the third quarter Sunday and finished with eight points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes.

Bynum has played every game in a season only once in his seven-year career. He missed the first four games this season because of a suspension and has appeared in all 49 games after that.

He was averaging 18.3 points and 12.1 rebounds before going scoreless Sunday with three rebounds.
