Lakers Nation, meet your new Lakers Now blogger

Share

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself to the faithful readers of the Los Angeles Times.

I’ll be taking over the Lakers Now blog starting next week for the departing Mark Medina, who has been the Lakers’ blogger the last 2 1/2 years.

The Times has always provided the best coverage of the Lakers, and I am dedicated to maintaining the high standard of those who preceded me. I grew up in Los Angeles watching my father scream at the heroics of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Showtime Lakers while cursing that team in green.

I remember going to games at the “Great Western Forum,” to see Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones and Cedric Ceballos overachieve in the pre-Shaquille O’Neal/Kobe Bryant era.

There was something special and even ritualistic about cracking open The Times’ Sports section for the best quotes, insight, opinion and analysis.

For the last decade I’ve covered the Lakers and the NBA for Hoopsworld.com. There I will continue to write about the Clippers and 28 other contenders.

Here at The Times, it will be Lakers around the clock.

For those new to my coverage, I like to focus on the team’s daily minutia but also take a wider view, mapping out where the Lakers fit in the league of 30.

I bring a national perspective and a thorough understanding of the league’s collective bargaining agreement. To predict what’s next for the Lakers, it’s vital to know the rules of the game.

What free agents are available? Who is on the trade block?

The Lakers can’t make a deal without a partner, so I find it vital to keep a pulse on everything NBA.

I look forward to getting into the day-to-day aspects of the blog. I am accessible, so please do not hesitate to send me an email or Twitter reply. I answer as quickly as possible.

The Lakers have a tremendous ceiling this season. Whatever the outcome, I look forward to writing about it here at The Times.
