Metta World Peace helps Philippines flood relief on Twitter

The contents of Metta World Peace’s Twitter feed usually involves the unpredictable. He’ll trash talk about opponents. He’ll tell X-rated jokes. He’ll hold promotions for fans. The tweets are usually random, but it’s always expected they’ll be odd, amusing or both.

On Tuesday morning, however, World Peace devoted all of his time on Twitter aiding relief efforts for the Philippines as heavy rains reportedly killed nine people and emergency crews mobilized in an effort to rescue tens of thousands. World Peace did so by sending tweets to Filipino fans who messaged him about the flood.

“Mayor Jun Binay says to report calls for rescue in the Makati area to 02 - 8701000,” World Peace tweeted to @Abi_Valte

To @JulianMauricio: World Peace sent this alert: “The Trinity University of Asia-High School campus is open for evacuees. If you can, send clothes, food and water.”

World Peace then retweeted a few messages from fans in the Philippines asking for help.

That included @TagaFEUKaKung‘s tweet that read, “UST HOSPITAL’S GENERATOR ALREADY DIED!!! PLEASE SEND SOME RESCUERS!” Another user, @saabmagalona, indicated, “Flood in UERM hospital is almost at 3rd floor where the nursery is. No rescuers the whole day.”

It’s hard to gauge the effect of World Peace’s messages on relief efforts. But considering he has 436,582 followers (and counting), it’s hoped they will help.
