Mike Brown muses over fake Twitter account

Share

Instead of lamenting the constant questions surrounding the separate benchings for Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum, Lakers Coach Mike Brown laughed at it.

After a reporter jokingly asked if he would get benched, Brown revealed how basketball operations assistant Kyle Triggs informed him after morning shootaround that someone created a fake Twitter account in his name. The handle, LakersMikeBrown, has since been shut down. But it apparently sent out this tweet: “I would bench Barack O’Bama, the Dali Llama and Jesus.”

Even Lakers forward Metta World Peace joined in on the fun in two separate tweets. “If I was mike brown I would bench Metta world peace and bring in Ron Artest. If I was mike brown I would bench Ron artest and cut Metta world peace.”

Brown laughed when informed about World Peace’s tweets. “That’s pretty good,” Brown said. “I didn’t know that one.”

He remained capitvated that coaches, such as his mentor, Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich, have fake Twitter handles. But this episode hardly will spur Brown to make a real Twitter account.

“I’ve never tweeted once in my life,” he said.

Instead, Brown simply plans to brag about how many followers his fake account accumulated to his son.

“I can’t wait until I get home because he has a Twitter account and I have someone who follows his Twitter account for me,” Brown said. “So he always wants to get all these extra followers. I’m going to tell him I started a Twitter account in three days and had over 800. I’m better than you.”
