Steve Nash is full of jokes on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’

Steve Nash began his first appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Tuesday night with self deprecation.

“I’m Steve,” he says, as if Lakers fans don’t know already. “I’m from Canada. I can’t sing. I don’t like music or make hit records. What’s most disappointing is I can’t bake.”

Nash then continued by allowing Leno to rib him about a young Phoenix Suns fan crying because Nash signed a three-year, $27-million deal with the team’s division rival.

At first, Nash was sarcastic: “She wanted hits on You Tube.”

Pop singer Justin Timberlake showed his support: “There’s a lot of people who are happy that you’re here, Steven.”

And then Nash turned sentimental: “We contacted her. I sent her a pair of shined game shoes. She sent me a nice picture with the shoes. She’s a sweet little girl.”

Nash kept the audience laughing by telling how his brother convinced many Mavericks fans to boo him every time he touched the ball when he first joined the team in 1998. He played along when Leno made fun of his varying hairstyles. And then he turned the tables on Leno.

“I know you and Dwyane Wade are really tight,” Nash said. “He’s on the show, what, twice a week?”

Once Nash’s act ended, one thing became clear: He’s soon to become a big hit in L.A. with the Lakers and on the late-night talk-show circuit.
