Tony Mandarich

Came out of Michigan State as one of the most-hyped offensive linemen in draft history. Little did anyone know at the time that his use of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HETHT00007" title="Steroids (INACTIVE)" href="/topic/health/medicine/steroids-%28inactive%29-HETHT00007.topic">steroids</a> allowed the tackle to dominate in college. Taken with the second pick of the 1989 draft by the Green Bay Packers, the "incredible shrinking tackle"  was unable to use steroids in the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000007" title="National Football League" href="/topic/sports/football/national-football-league-ORSPT000007.topic">NFL</a> and was relegated to special-teams play his rookie season.  He lasted three unproductive seasons before being cut. And just to make the pick appear worse, Detroit Lions superstar Barry Sanders was taken one selection after Mandarich.
