San Francisco scored touchdowns on four of its six first-half possessions to take an insurmountable 27-3 halftime lead. Statistically, the 49ers' domination was very evident -- first downs (28-12), net yards (461-167), and time of possession (39:31-20:29). Quarterback Joe Montana was the Super Bowl most valuable player for a record third time after completing 22 of 29 passes for 297 yards and a Super Bowl record five touchdowns. Jerry Rice caught seven passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns.
